Description

Our client located in Markham, has been active in the development, acquisition, redevelopment and management of over 300 shopping centers, mixed-use and residential developments comprising well over 35 million square feet across Canada and the United States.

Currently, they have over $5 Billion of AUM and owns over 35 million square feet of shopping center and mixed-use space in the United States and Canada, as well as numerous residential development projects consisting of over 14,000 units in various stages of development or pre-development. Their team consists of over 275 professionals in 13 offices across North America, 6 in Canada and 7 in the United States.

Due to growth and success, they have an immediate need for a Director, Development, Multi-Family Residential Development. This is a strategic and impact role and reports directly to the President and to the Executive Vice President, Development Services. 

We are currently seeking an experienced Director, Development to join our team to oversee several multi-family residential (rental and condominium) projects across Canada. The Director, Development will be a strategic business partner accountable for driving the successful execution of our residential projects from the ground-up. The successful applicant has a proven track record of meeting budgets and schedules when executing large-scale projects in the real estate space.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and manage all aspects of multiple residential projects to ensure construction timelines and objectives are met. This includes all project management phases, from planning, execution and performance to completion.
  • Oversee and assist with various aspects of architectural design including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, interior layouts and finishes, building sections, details, models, and renderings.
  • Monitor municipal and provincial policies, market trends, and the overall competitive landscape
  • Determine appropriate timelines and resource requirements to ensure the successful completion of each project.
  • Identify and manage project dependencies.
  • Review and recommend budget proposal changes when necessary.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Senior Executives, Partners, Marketing and Development Services, and external stakeholders such as partners, consultants, construction teams, trades and municipal staff.
  • Ensure effective project management tracking and communication methods are used to illustrate project progress for internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant has 5-10 years of relevant full cycle residential project management experience.
  • Experience concurrently managing multiple large development projects is preferred.
  • Experience and/or educational background in architectural design, marketing and/or construction is an asset.
  • Strong communication and financial analytical skills with the ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders and consultants.
  • Deadline-driven and motivated to do what it takes to get the job done.
  • Exceptional problem solver.
