Division Manager, Water

Our client, a Canadian, employee-owned company servicing the public and private sector clients across Canada and abroad are looking to add a Division Manager, Water to their successful and growing team.  This role reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager.

 The successful candidate will lead the Water Division within the Ontario Operation. The central focus of the Division is to provide engineering and advisory services for water and wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects throughout Ontario. The Division services a diverse client sector including urban and rural communities, Indigenous communities, private industry, and contractors throughout the Province.

 As the Water Division Manager, the successful candidate must be able to:

 (1) Lead the business of the Division;

(2) Be technically competent and drive the technical performance of the team;

(3) Possess credible understanding of client management, project management, engineering planning and design, and construction. 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • P.Eng (Ontario) + Bachelor’s (or advanced) degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in design, construction, and management.

  • Minimum 10 years working in the consulting engineering industry.

  • Building and maintaining positive working relationships with key client decision makers.

  • Several years of experience working and managing projects for municipal clients in the Ontario market from small to major centres including rural and Indigenous communities.

  • Experience delivering traditional design-bid-build as well as alternative delivery models.

  • Known and engaged within local technical/professional associations – thought leadership, presentations, roles etc.

  • Involved community leader.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in:

    • Overall management in a hybrid work environment.

    • Business development in both public and private sectors, including preparation of proposals and cost estimates for municipal clients.

    • Managing multi-discipline projects for municipal clients across the broad Ontario market.

    • Project management and controls with a proven track record of client delivery and satisfaction, and financial success.

    • Leading, coaching and mentoring staff.

    • Liaising with clients, contractors, and other consultants.

 Responsibilities:

 Duties will include, but will not necessarily be limited to the following:

 

  • Taking a lead role in the business, client relationships, and team development.

  • Ensuring the Division's financial objectives are achieved through developing a yearly business plan, including identifying and preparing a summary of objectives that address business development, staffing and staff development, project delivery, and financial performance.

  • Providing operational management encompassing all aspects of market development including identifying business opportunities, organizing, and executing business development initiatives, and leading select proposal development efforts.

  • Reviewing proposal prospects to ensure that the projects are within the Company's capabilities and that risks are minimized.

  • Delivering outstanding service to our clients by assigning and supporting Client Service Managers, ensuring the successful delivery of projects, and managing projects as needed.

  • Monitoring projects for financial, schedule, and technical performance.

  • Providing technical guidance, senior leadership, and mentoring engineering staff to enhance our water services capabilities in Ontario. 

  • Staff management including recruiting, staff development, and working with group managers to optimize staff deployment across the division. 

  • Collaborating with our clients Subsidiary Water Division Managers for resourcing and/or deployment of staff across the Subsidiaries in support of our One-company, One-Water approach.

  • Keeping staff technically current through awareness of upcoming training, conferences, and seminars, and by formulating recommendations for attendance and presentation of papers in consulting with Technical Vice Presidents, and with the approval of the General Manager.

  • Quality Management for the Division, ensuring that all engineering work is carried out in accordance with accepted industry standards, company procedures, and client expectations.
