Our client has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Stormwater / Water Resources Engineer to join their Land Development team in both the Collingwood and Pickering offices. The land development group works with an established client list, in both residential and commercial development, including major builders and developers, and smaller local developers with whom they have worked for extensively for years and have built strong relationships for repeat business. The team also deals with development and/or re-development of downtown GTA properties, urban “brownfield” sites, and greenfield properties.

The team is involved in projects which include all types and sizes of development, including:

  • Greenfield low-rise development;

  • Shopping centres;

  • Future commercial developments/re-developments;

  • Low density infill urban subdivisions;

  • High and mid density condominium and townhouse residential;

  • Industrial buildings and institutional buildings;

  • Small multiple developments to large scale mixed residential developments; and

  • Large Scale mixed use commercial retail and office buildings.

Responsibilities

  • The primary focus of this position will be the study, design and associated hydraulic/hydrologic modelling of stormwater management systems, including but not limited to storm sewers, stormwater management facilities, low impact development (LID) techniques, floodplain analysis and erosion and sediment control plans, etc.

  • The role will be varied but a primary role will be to assist the land development team with CAD design of the stormwater systems using AutoCAD and 3-D modelling programs (not required but preferable). The successful candidate will receive training in the use of 3-D models, as required.

  • The role involves working closely with other discipline AutoCAD and 3-D modelling designers, on residential developments, commercial developments, municipal road, bridge/culvert designs, and work completed directly for conservation authorities.

  • The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with an energetic proven team.

  • A wide variety of other duties will be required, such as supporting intermediate and senior engineers and technologists in the preparation of proposals, technical reports (i.e. functional servicing reports, stormwater management reports), tender documentation, permit applications, production of preliminary and detailed design drawings and preparation, coordination of approvals and development of construction cost estimates.

  • Experience in working with conservation authorities, the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, and the Department of Fisheries would be an asset.

  • Other design related activities will also be required.

Qualifications

  • A post secondary degree with a focus on Civil Engineering and/or water resources;

  • Registered Professional Engineer (Ontario / PEO)

  • A minimum of 5 years related experience; and

  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and vehicle.

The following experience and skills are considered additional assets:

  • Experience with municipal infrastructure design, project management, contract administration and client relationships is an asset but not a requirement;

  • Experience with Civil 3D;

  • InfoWorks, InfoWater, PCSWMM, SWMHYMO, Visual Hymo and HEC-RAS modelling;

  • Sewer design; and

  • Stormwater management design.
