Description
Our client, an employee-owned geo-environmental consulting firm with offices in Toronto, Hamilton, Durham, and Ottawa, and a satellite office in British Columbia has an immediate and strategic role of Practice Area Manager, Geotechnical Investigations.
They provide a full complement of professional services in the geotechnical, hydrogeological, environmental, and related fields.
Ideally looking for an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and goal-oriented individual to take on a leadership position within their Geotechnical Service Line, as the Manager of the Geotechnical Investigations Practice Area. The geotechnical group currently consists of 35 dedicated and talented staff, including 5 licensed engineers and a fully accredited soils and concrete laboratory. Their client base includes leading infrastructure GCs, major landowners, and top-tier developers in the GTA and Ottawa, a variety of government and related agencies, commercial/industrial landowners, construction companies and architects/engineers. They pride themselves on being leaders in in-situ testing, precision monitoring and ground improvement technologies.
The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of geotechnical projects including both building construction and infrastructure. They will possess a strong geotechnical engineering background with excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, and a sound knowledge of infrastructure, soil improvement, low-rise and high-rise construction, slope stability, instrumentation and monitoring, construction vibration, drainage and dewatering of basement/underground parking structures.
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Current Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Current Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Current Certified Technician (C.Tech.)
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in a consulting engineering setting and be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario. The position reports to the Geotechnical Service Line Manager.
Management/mentoring experience as this role has four to six direct reports.
Responsibilities:
• Management of geotechnical investigation work programs;
• Providing QA/QC and senior review of technical reports and proposals;
• Seeking out and responding to Requests for Proposals, developing new business, maintaining existing clients and accounts, attending industry events;
• Ensuring that the Practice Area meets established business objectives (e.g., growth, profitability, productivity, health & safety, client and employee satisfaction); Taking responsibility for technical procedures, resources (people, technology and tools), training, safety and other operational aspects of the Practice Area;
• Providing technical expertise, supervision, and mentoring to staff within the Practice Area; and • Working with the Service Line Manager in development and execution of corporate strategies, and monitoring and reporting of Geotechnical Service Line activity as it pertains to established corporate objectives
