Our client, a multi-disciplinary engineering firm with a solid track record of success in many fields of civil engineering and has the proven expertise to develop innovative and practical solutions to address the specific requirements of large and small infrastructure engineering projects for both public and private sector organizations. Due to growth and success, have an immediate need for a Senior Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) or 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or related field) or 2-year Diploma in Construction Engineering Technician Current Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Current Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Current Certified Technician (C.Tech.)

  • 7+ years or more of progressive engineering design experience

  • 5 years or more of providing effective mentoring to less experienced engineers, technicians, or designers.

  • Superior client and interpersonal skills, combined with strong team and leadership abilities.

  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of civil engineering and especially equipment, processes, practices, and standards used in the design and construction of municipal infrastructure)

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance diverse, changing, and conflicting priorities to meet short and long-term project milestones.

  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment and demonstrated experience with database management, and other relevant design and drafting software (e.g., ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD)

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (bilingualism in English and French would be considered a strong asset).

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the group manager, this position will work on a variety of municipal infrastructure engineering projects that may include roads, sewers, watermains, culverts, stormwater management facilities, hydraulic modelling, and construction contract management.

Leads moderate to high-risk projects with annual fee value in excess of $1,000,000 or multiple smaller revenue multi-phase projects with a high level of complexity.

Reporting to a group manager, the Senior Project Manager will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities including:

  • Work independently and lead the project as part of a team to define the problem, establish the scope of work, prepare budgets and schedules, plan the work, and provide technical direction and oversight.

  • Overall project management of multiple projects during both design and contract administration phases.

  • Plan, organize and control project budgets and schedules

  • Lead projects or technical components of projects from planning through design and technical support during construction

  • Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to junior staff.

  • Prepare and verify drawings, specifications, quantities and cost estimates, procurement documents, and proposals.

  • Prepare detailed project reports and proposals.

  • Provide engineering services review for large complex projects during construction. Coordinate and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients. Work within established project schedules and budgets.

  • Provide direction and oversee designers, technicians and engineers working projects. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, codes, regulations, and guidelines.

  • Continually improve standards and best practices and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews.

  • Act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering project management related matters.

  • Maintain affiliations with professional societies to keep abreast of current and future technologies.

  • Liaise with clients, subconsultants, contractors and approval agencies. Ensure that the clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Exercise professional and sound judgment in the execution of responsibilities. Performs other duties relevant to the position as assigned.
